The US Congress has prepared a resolution to prohibit President Donald Trump from interfering in the conflict between Israel and Iran. The draft was developed jointly by Democrats and Republicans, according to the resolution draft on the US Congress website.

The resolution draft was proposed by Republican Congressman of the House of Representatives Thomas Massie, who joined forces with some Democrats.

"Congress has the sole power to declare war against Iran. The ongoing war between Israel and Iran is not our war. Even if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution," Massie said earlier.

The resolution states that, pursuant to Section 5 of the War Powers Resolution, the US president is directed to withdraw American troops “from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The conclusions of the document note that Congress has the exclusive right to declare war, and lawmakers have neither done so nor granted special authorization for such actions.

"Congress hereby directs the President to terminate the use of United States Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran or any part of its government or military, unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or specific authorization for use of military force against Iran," the resolution states.

Escalation between Israel and Iran

The conflict between Israel and Iran has entered a phase of active military confrontation. On the night of June 13, Israel carried out airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, stating that the attack was necessary because Tehran had come close to developing nuclear weapons.

In response, the very next night, Iran launched over 150 missiles at Israeli territory, escalating the situation in the region.

However, the conflict has not abated. Today, June 19, Iran struck the Soroka hospital in Beersheba.

Meanwhile, according to Bloomberg, the US is preparing for a possible strike on Iran in the coming days. And The Wall Street Journal reports that Donald Trump has already approved a plan of attack but temporarily postponed its execution.

The Guardian, citing sources, writes that Trump is concerned about the effectiveness of American bombs and whether they will be able to destroy the critical uranium enrichment facility in Fordow.
