US House of Representatives member from the Republican Party, Joe Wilson, intends to introduce a bill in Congress to extend the Lend-Lease program for Ukraine into 2025. He believes that this could pressure Russia into peace negotiations, according to Wilson’s post on social media platform X.

"Today, I will introduce the FREEDOM FIRST LEND-LEASE ACT to give President Trump flexible authorities to send war-winning weapons to our partners including Ukraine to deter War Criminal Putin as Biden should have done long ago," Wilson wrote.

He emphasized that Joe Biden should have done this long ago, adding that Russia must be brought to the negotiating table through American strength.

What is Lend-Lease

It should be noted that earlier, the House of Representatives passed the defense budget for 2025, but the document does not include provisions for extending the Lend-Lease program for Ukraine.

Lend-Lease is a policy under which the US supplies its allies with ammunition, equipment, food, strategic raw materials, including oil products, and other material resources. It is presented as a law aimed at supporting the defense of the US.

The Lend-Lease Act has been passed twice in history: once on March 11, 1941, during World War II, and a second time for Ukraine on May 9, 2022. President Biden signed the law on that day, several months after Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
