The US Army is preparing for a massive military parade in Washington, DC on June 14 — a date that marks both the Army's 250th anniversary and Donald Trump's 79th birthday — potentially involving over 6,600 troops and hundreds of military assets, according to AP News.

Internal Army documents dated April 29-30 outline a bold blueprint for a large-scale parade down the National Mall featuring 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven military bands, and a parachute jump by the elite Golden Knights team.

While initially planned as a festival without a parade, the Army began considering the parade element more seriously in recent weeks.

"We want to make it into an event that the entire nation can celebrate with us," said Col. Dave Butler. "We want Americans to know their Army and their soldiers. A parade might become part of that, and we think that will be an excellent addition to what we already have planned."

Up to 6,300 soldiers would participate in the parade itself, with others handling support roles.

Troops and armored units from at least 11 divisions are expected, including Stryker vehicles, tanks, Howitzers, Bradleys, and Paladin artillery.

Civilian participants, veterans' groups, military colleges, and historic re-enactors may also be involved.

Trump's long-awaited military showcase could finally happen

Trump has pushed for a grand military parade ever since witnessing France's Bastille Day celebration in 2017.

His first attempt was canceled in 2018 amid outrage over projected costs of up to $92 million and concerns from DC officials about damage to streets caused by tanks.

This year, however, the Army's anniversary provides new momentum. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed the federal government approached the city about a June 14 parade and warned, "If military tanks were used, they should be accompanied by many millions of dollars to repair the roads."

The National Park Service has requested the parade be designated a national special security event, and while no final approval has been granted, preparations are well underway — with a concert and fireworks planned to follow the parade.
