Negotiations between the United States and Iran have reached a significant breakthrough, raising the prospect of an agreement in the near future, Reuters reports.

According to a key Pakistani mediator involved in the dialogue, the United States and Iran "are agreeing in principle" on reaching a deal after the latest round of talks.

He said that recent backdoor diplomacy has led to noticeable progress, with several complex issues moving forward during meetings held in Tehran this week.

Mediators’ role and possible timeline

As reported, Pakistan’s de facto leader, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has played an important role in advancing the negotiation process, helping both sides overcome some of the most sensitive differences.

Preliminary plans suggest that the next stage could involve signing a memorandum of understanding, after which the parties aim to finalize a full agreement within approximately 60 days.

Statements from the US and Iran

US President Donald Trump previously said the deal is in its final stage and that the conflict could end soon.

He also suggested he may visit Islamabad if the agreement is signed.

At the same time, Iranian sources note that a number of disagreements still remain and require further coordination.

According to US intelligence, China is considering supplying Iran with advanced radar systems, which could significantly strengthen Tehran’s air defense capabilities.

It is also noted that President Trump is seeking to resolve the conflict with Iran through negotiations. However, amid declining approval ratings and rising prices, he may be more willing to compromise with Tehran than he publicly suggests.
