Military leaders from the US and several European countries have completed drafting military options regarding Ukraine and will submit them for review to their national security advisers, Reuters reports.

"These options will be presented to each nation’s respective national security advisers for appropriate consideration in ongoing diplomatic efforts," a US military statement said.

Meetings of the chiefs of defense from the US, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Ukraine took place in Washington from Tuesday to Thursday.

One option, according to Reuters, could be sending European troops to Ukraine under US command. At the same time, Russia’s Foreign Ministry ruled out the deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump publicly stated that he does not plan to send American troops, but left open the possibility of other US involvement, such as supplying additional air defense systems and enforcing a no-fly zone with US fighter jets.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

According to Western media, Russian leader Vladimir Putin does not oppose granting Ukraine security guarantees under a NATO Article 5-like principle, although the exact format of such arrangements has not been determined.

Germany has already said it does not rule out sending its contingent to Ukraine, while the United Kingdom emphasized that it is ready to deploy troops immediately after signing a potential peace agreement or ceasefire deal.

The day before, the Coalition of the Willing confirmed its readiness to deploy deterrent forces. A foreign military presence is intended to prevent a new major Russian offensive.

At the same time, Greece stated that its military will not go to Ukraine.
