Russia bombed Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region twice, targeting locations where humanitarian aid was being distributed. As a result of the airstrikes, 24 residents of the settlement were killed, according to statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram, Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Defense Council Ivan Fedorov on Telegram, and Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Mykhailo Semikin on Telegram.

9 aerial bombs in the second strike

Zelenskyy described today’s strike on Komyshuvakha as "extremely horrific."

"Since this morning, the settlement has been hit several times by aerial bombs. The strikes targeted a school used for humanitarian purposes – people were receiving humanitarian aid there. After the first aerial bomb strike, there was a double-tap strike with nine more bombs, specifically targeting the shelter where people were taking cover," the president clarified.

According to his data, eighteen deaths have been confirmed. Five people were injured.

Zelenskyy noted that the occupiers could not have been unaware that locals received humanitarian aid at that location every week.

"And this is further proof that Russia wants no de-escalation and no real justice," he said.

The president remarked that after the humanitarian mission in Oleshky, there was hope for approaching peace, but Russia is "counting on further killings."

Details of the tragedy

Ivan Fedorov added that the fate of other people is currently being determined.

"A search and rescue operation is underway. All services are working on-site in an enhanced mode, and utility workers are clearing the rubble," he stated.

Mykhailo Semikin clarified that among the deceased are a police officer and two rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Another 27 people are considered missing.

The Office of the Prosecutor General announced that criminal proceedings have been opened regarding Russia’s commission of a war crime.

"As of 7:00 PM, 18 deaths and five injuries are known. As a result of the enemy strikes, the following were damaged: an educational institution building, a utility building, and vehicles," the OPG stated.

People remain under the rubble. The rescue operation continues. Information regarding the victims is being clarified.

Later, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that the number of fatalities had increased.

"The number of fatalities resulting from Russian strikes on an educational institution in one of the settlements in the Zaporizhzhia district has risen to 24 people, including 2 rescuers and 4 police officers. Another 5 people were injured, including 2 rescuers," the rescuers wrote.
