Unknown object enters Romanian airspace, jets scrambled
An unidentified aerial object entered Romania on the night of October 19, prompting the country to deploy aircraft, according to the press service of the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
Around 2:30 a.m., radar systems detected a "small aerial object" over the Black Sea. Romania scrambled fighter jets as the object was heading toward the national border.
Four aircraft were deployed—two Romanian F-16s and two Spanish F-18s.
Radar signals also indicated a potential border breach near Gura Portiței, north of the major port city of Constanța, around 4:00 a.m. Authorities recommended declaring an air raid alert in the region.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the object crossed 19 kilometers into Romanian airspace, but the fighter jets did not visually confirm it. It disappeared from radar south of Cojalak at around 4:30 a.m., and the air alert was lifted at 5:10 a.m.
The Ministry of Defense ordered a search of the area for any signs of the object’s fall.
Russia's overnight attack
On the night of October 19, Russia launched 98 drones and six guided aviation missiles at Ukraine. Air defense forces intercepted 42 drones and four missiles. Anti-air systems were active across nine regions, including Odesa, which borders Romania.
Currently, the locations of 46 Russian drones remain unknown.
In Sumy’s Shostka district, Russian attacks destroyed a fire station and damaged educational and medical facilities, several institutions, residential buildings, and vehicles.
In Chernihiv, a critical infrastructure site was targeted, and in Kyiv, debris from downed drones caused further damage.
