An aerial object was detected in Moldova's airspace during another Russian attack on Ukraine. It passed through the Transnistrian sector, according to the Moldovan Ministry of Defense.

Object's route, incident details

Air Operations Service of Moldova's National Army said an unidentified target was detected at 3:50 p.m. The object crossed the state border from the Odesa region.

The border was crossed near the settlements of Lymanske in the Odesa region and Dniester in the Transnistrian sector.

The aerial target left Moldovan airspace at 3:59 p.m. and reentered Ukrainian airspace along the Dniester-Lymanske section.

The ministry emphasized that the unauthorized incursion was a direct consequence of another Russian strike on Ukraine.

"The unauthorized flight through our country's airspace occurred as a result of today's air attacks by the Russian Federation's armed forces against Ukraine," the ministry said.

Government response

Chisinau said the country's defense structures, together with international partners, are keeping the situation under control and taking security measures.

"National authorities, together with partners, continue to monitor the airspace to ensure people's safety," the Defense Ministry of Moldova emphasized.

Moldova's airspace infringements

As previously reported, this is far from the first time Russian aggression has extended beyond Ukraine and posed a threat to neighboring countries. Russian drones and missiles have repeatedly crossed the border and maneuvered through Moldova's airspace during attacks.

In particular, on the night of August 27, five drones entered Moldova following a Russian attack on Ukraine. The aircraft crossed the country's border after the massive attack on Ukrainian territory had ended.

In addition, on August 17, a Russian Banderol drone entered Moldova, followed by an explosion. The incident occurred near the settlement of Talmaza in the Ștefan Vodă district, where the aircraft's crash sparked a fire.
