United States will keep talking to Russia despite war, Rubio says

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio explained why Washington continues to maintain an official dialogue with the Kremlin despite the ongoing war against Ukraine and the lack of progress in negotiations, DRM News reports.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is deliberately maintaining official contacts with Moscow despite Russia's war against Ukraine.
In his view, breaking diplomatic ties between the two countries would be a dangerous decision.
The top US diplomat pointed to the nuclear status of both countries.
"We (the US - ed.) and Russia are the two largest nuclear-armed countries on the planet," Rubio said.
According to the secretary of state, severing relations between Washington and Moscow would run counter to the security interests of both countries.
"For us not to talk would be reckless and irresponsible," Rubio said.
He added that the diplomatic channel with the Kremlin remains a necessary tool.
"We have to have a relationship with the Russian government," the head of the State Department concluded.
Earlier, it emerged that the Kremlin leader had rejected territorial concessions following an unsuccessful meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.
According to Bloomberg, the leader has decided to seek full control of the Donetsk region while maintaining buffer zones in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
In addition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced a meeting with Marco Rubio on July 23, during which he plans to discuss Trump's recent prediction regarding the end of the war.
According to Lavrov, the Kremlin is still waiting for Washington's response to the proposals presented in Alaska.
