After the massive shelling of Kyiv, Ukraine convened the UN Security Council. Diplomats will insist on the protection of civilians and the immediate cessation of Russian attacks, according to Ukrinform.

On Friday, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting at the request of Ukraine in connection with Russia’s massive shelling of civilian infrastructure, which took dozens of lives on the night of August 28.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time.

Representatives of Ukraine will inform the Security Council about the scale of destruction and call for international action to protect the civilian population, in particular for an immediate ceasefire.

At this time, in New York, a delegation will be led by Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. They plan to meet with the special envoy of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff.

Combined attack of Kyiv

On the night of August 28, Kyiv suffered the most massive shelling in recent times. Russia launched more than 600 drones and missiles that attacked the capital from all directions.

The greatest damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi district. There, a missile hit a five-story building, destroying one entrance on the third to fourth floors. As a result of the strike, 22 people died, among them four children, the youngest of whom was less than three years old.

Buildings in eight districts of Kyiv were damaged – a scale of destruction has never been seen before. In total, during the shelling, 23 people died, and 53 were injured and have already received medical assistance.

Previously, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported that rescue operations at the site of the strike in the Darnytskyi district have been completed. The fate of eight people is still unknown.
