UN Security Council to hold emergency closed-door meeting over Israel war
The UN Security Council will hold an emergency closed-door meeting today regarding the situation in the Middle East, according to CNN.
The Security Council session is scheduled to begin at 22:00 Kyiv time.
It is expected that Israel's Permanent Representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, will brief the press before the start of the meeting.
HAMAS attack on Israel
Yesterday morning, HAMAS terrorists infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip and engaged in combat with Israeli forces. The militants managed to seize a number of populated areas.
By evening, Israeli forces had regained control of the majority of the territory and launched strikes in response against Hamas military targets and headquarters.
Israel declared a "state of war" and initiated the counter-terrorism operation "Operation Iron Swords." It should be noted that the attack by HAMAS in Israel resulted in the deaths of at least 500 people.
