The International Court of Justice ruled Friday that it had jurisdiction to consider Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia dated 2022, according to live broadcast.

In its lawsuit against Russia, Ukraine demands holding the aggressor accountable for distorting the concept of genocide. During the session at the Peace Palace, where the ICJ is located, the judges recognized that the court had jurisdiction to hear the case.

As a result, the lawsuit is either fully or partially acceptable. The next step will be the substantive consideration of the case.

The lawsuit was filed by Ukraine to the UN court on February 26, 2022, regarding Russia's manipulation of the International Convention on the Prevention of Genocide to justify the attack on Ukraine by declaring a "special military operation." At that time, Russia invaded Ukraine, supposedly responding to genocide in Donbas.

Ukraine requests the court to recognize that there is no credible evidence of genocide in Donbas and that Russia violated the convention when recognizing the independence of "L/DNR", Russian-backed pseudostates on Ukrainian land.

Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia on January 31

Recently, the UN International Court announced its final decision on Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia on violations of conventions prohibiting terrorism financing and combating racial discrimination in Donbas and Crimea.

The UN court acknowledged Russia's violations of certain parts of the Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism.

The court session at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands) was broadcast live.

Ukraine filed this lawsuit against Russia with the UN court on January 16, 2017. It is related to the aggressor's actions in Crimea and Donbas, addressing violations of two conventions by the Kremlin, namely the Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
