What is the UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights Violations?
The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights Violations in Ukraine is an independent body authorized by the UN Human Rights Council, among other things, to investigate all alleged human rights violations and abuses, and violations of international humanitarian law, as well as related crimes in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The Commission's objective is to establish the facts, circumstances, and causes of any such violations and abuses, as well as to collect, consolidate, and analyze evidence of such violations. The Commission will present a report on its activities to the General Assembly in October 2023 and to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2023.
It was previously reported that the UN, along with donors, is raising funds for Ukraine to support during the cold season. The amount in question is $268 million.
The UN International Court is also planning to hold hearings in September on Ukraine's genocide lawsuit against Russia.
