Most Ukrainians do not support either side in the Middle East conflict, although sympathies toward the United States and Israel are somewhat higher than toward Iran, according to a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

"The majority of Ukrainians – 65% – say they do not support any side. At the same time, 22% expressed support for the US and Israel, and 7% for Iran," according to results of a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

It is also noted that another 7% could not answer the question or did not know about the Middle East conflict.

Despite the fact that the results of the new poll show that the majority across all categories of Ukrainians do not support any side, there are some differences.

For example, more educated respondents more often said they side with the United States and Israel, although even among them, 61% do not support either side.

How the poll was conducted

The poll was conducted using telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers in all regions of Ukraine.

A poll was conducted among adult citizens of Ukraine. Residents of territories temporarily not controlled by Ukrainian authorities were not included in the sample.

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical margin of error of such a sample did not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%, 3.5% for indicators close to 25%, 2.5% for indicators close to 10%, and 1.8% for indicators close to 5%.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that a prolonged war between the United States and Israel against Iran may further weaken American support for Kyiv.

According to him, amid a new war, Ukraine is no longer at the center of international attention. That is why, he said, Kyiv fears that prolonged conflict around Iran will lead to further reduction of support from the United States.
