Ukrainians in temporarily occupied territories without Russian passport can't marry
Soon, residents of temporarily occupied territories without Russian passports will no longer be able to register marriages. This move is part of Russia's efforts to fully assimilate the population in the captured areas, reports the National Resistance Center (NRC).
The restrictions are set to come into effect on February 5.
Additionally, the Center notes that under the new occupation regulations of Putin's law "On the legal status of foreign citizens in the Russian federation," starting in 2025, the regime will enforce deportation measures against foreigners and stateless persons without legal grounds for staying in Russia, including in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
"As part of the so-called state control over migrants, police officers are entitled to access housing and other premises where Ukrainians who have not changed their citizenship actually live," the NRC stated.
Situation in the temporarily occupied territories
Recently, a registry of Ukrainians who have not obtained Russian passports began operating in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Apart from restrictions on marriage registration, individuals without Russian passports will also be prohibited from using banking services, registering real estate, and driving vehicles.
As of January 1, Russians have denied Ukrainians without Russian passports access to subsidized medications.
Additionally, starting March 5, a law will come into effect in the occupied territories allowing police to enter the homes of individuals without Russian citizenship.
