Ukrainians gave Poland's economy major boost, foreign ministry reveals

Poland has assessed the role Ukrainians play in the country’s economy and highlighted figures that show the scale of their contribution to GDP, according to Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry reports that the employment rate among Ukrainians in Poland stood at 78% in 2024. The ministry also noted that Ukrainians were among the factors contributing to Poland’s 2.7% GDP growth.
The foreign ministry stressed that these figures reflect more than employment and tax revenues — they also represent concrete examples of business growth and innovation.
"Ukrainians aren’t just finding safety in Poland – they are active contributors to the Polish economy," the ministry said.
The ministry also highlighted the close ties between the two countries, describing Ukrainians’ contribution as part of the shared future of Poland and Ukraine.
Earlier, Poland changed the rules governing aid for Ukrainian refugees. As of July 1, 2026, free accommodation and meals in collective accommodation centers were limited to the most vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, pregnant women and some pensioners.
At the same time, the Polish government has admitted that the current list of aid recipients is too narrow. As a result, a bill was introduced in the Sejm that would restore benefits for single mothers, low-income pensioners and family members of vulnerable groups. Its consideration is expected in September.
