The prestigious WTA 1000 tournament, the Omnium National Bank Open, has kicked off in Montreal, Canada, attracting top female tennis players from around the world.

Ukrainian players' draw revealed

This week, Ukrainian fans will follow four athletes: Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, and Yuliia Starodubtseva.

Three of them, who are seeded, automatically advanced to the second round, where their opponents were determined after the completion of first-round matches.

Dayana Yastremska vs. Camila Osorio

Seeded 30th, Dayana skipped the first round and will face world No. 57 Camila Osorio, who defeated American Bernarda Pera in the opening round (6–3, 7–5).
This will be their second head-to-head encounter. They previously met at the Paris Olympics, where the Colombian won in straight sets.
Yastremska is currently in solid form, having reached the final in Nottingham, the quarterfinals in Eastbourne, and defeated world No. 2 Coco Gauff at Wimbledon.

Marta Kostyuk vs. Marketa Vondrousova

Marta, currently on a six-match losing streak, will face 65th-ranked Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic, who beat Alexandra Eala from the Philippines (3–6, 6–1, 6–2) in the first round.

In 2023 and 2024, the two players met twice and are currently tied 1–1 in their head-to-head.

Kostyuk is currently in a slump, having lost early at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and her last tournament in Washington. Her most recent victory came back in May in Rome.

Elina Svitolina vs. Kamilla Rakhimova

In the second round, 10th seed Elina Svitolina will play her first match of the tournament against neutral athlete Kamilla Rakhimova.

The "neutral" player beat Canadian Kayla Cross in the first round (4–6, 6–3, 6–2).

This will be Elina's first-ever meeting with the world No. 62.

Note that Elina has extensive experience playing in major tournaments. In 2017, she already won the Canadian WTA 1000 event.

Yuliia Starodubtseva vs. Magdalena Fręch

Yuliia Starodubtseva advanced to the second round after a tough win over China’s Yafan Wang (7–6, 4–6, 6–4).

She will now face 21st seed Magdalena Fręch from Poland, whom she lost to just a week ago in Washington.
