A Ukrainian citizen died while on a seaside vacation in Albania. The incident was an accident, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on July 11 the Ukrainian embassy in Albania received a report via its hotline about the death of a Ukrainian citizen born in 1983.

"According to the victim's relatives, she had traveled to Albania for tourism. Her death was the result of a water-related accident. A decision has been made to repatriate the body to Ukraine," the ministry stated.

A consular officer is currently assisting with the repatriation of the deceased Ukrainian citizen's body. The case remains under the supervision of the relevant authorities.

Background

Earlier today, reports emerged online that a Ukrainian woman had died while vacationing in Albania. According to local media, the woman was staying in the coastal city of Vlora with her two daughters. The family entered the sea during unsafe conditions.

At some point, one of the daughters began to drown, prompting the mother to attempt a rescue. The situation quickly turned critical — the woman was unable to pull the child from the water and lost her life in the process. Her daughter was taken to intensive care and remains in serious condition.
