Fighting continues in the Sumy region - the enemy persists with assaults, but our defenders are putting up strong resistance. There have already been initial successes in counterattacks and a noticeable decrease in enemy activity in certain areas, states Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Demchenko noted that Ukrainian forces are not only holding back enemy attacks but are also successfully launching counteroffensives, liberating occupied territories.

What’s happening at the border

According to Andrii Demchenko, the enemy is constantly trying to advance deeper into Ukraine, particularly in the areas of the Khotyn and Yunakivka communities. This is a relatively small section of the Sumy region’s total border length, which stretches over 550 kilometers.

Russian forces are employing tactics involving small infantry groups attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian territory. However, Ukrainian border guards and Armed Forces units are actively countering these efforts with all available weaponry to destroy the enemy.

"But in this direction, where State Border Guard Service units are operating - including within the defensive lines - we’re using all available weapons, just like the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this operational zone, to inflict maximum damage on the enemy and eliminate their infantry," stated Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko.

He emphasized that Russian forces are suffering significant losses. In recent days, the enemy's activity has decreased compared to the initial phase of the assault, when they deployed numerous small assault groups. Now, the situation is shifting in Ukraine’s favor.

Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s Defense Forces have eliminated approximately 1,070 Russian soldiers and destroyed 295 units of enemy equipment and weaponry.

The heaviest Russian losses — in both manpower and equipment — continue to occur in the Pokrovsk, Sloviansk, and Kharkiv directions.

Notably, Ukraine’s Defense Forces recently liberated the frontline village of Kindrativka in the Sumy region. According to Demchenko, expelling Russian troops from this settlement allows Ukrainian forces to strengthen their positions and delay further enemy advances.
