Ukrainian top general visits Kupiansk frontline positions
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, visited positions in the area of Kupiansk city in the Kharkiv region today, January 9th, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
It is noted that besides Zaluzhnyi, the Kupiansk region was visited by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Serhii Shaptala.
The Commander of the Joint Forces Operation Khortytsia, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskii, briefed them on the situation around Kupiansk, where Ukrainian soldiers repel constant attempts by the enemy to attack.
According to the military, the Russian occupiers have not achieved success in this direction.
"I had the honor to meet with unit commanders who are currently fighting in this direction. They reported on the situation and current challenges. Decisions will be made soon - the enemy won't like it," emphasized the Defense Minister.
Situation in the Kupiansk direction
Recently, the British outlet The Telegraph, citing a source close to the Ukrainian military, claimed that Russians might begin a ground offensive in the Kharkiv region on January 15 after intensified shelling.
At the same time, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ground Forces Command, Lieutenant Colonel Volodymyr Fitio, stated that the military had not observed changes in the composition of enemy forces in the Kharkiv region or on the territory of Russia bordering the region.
Yesterday, Syrskii reported that Russian occupiers continued active offensive actions in the Kupiansk forest, attempting to break through the defense of Ukrainian forces and advance towards Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region.
