Ukrainian soldier sets record eliminating Russian occupier at 2 kilometers distance
A Special Forces officer of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine has set a sniper record. The soldier with the call sign “Lektor” (Lecturer in Ukrainian - ed.) eliminated the Russian occupant with a .338LM bullet at a distance of 2,069 meters, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reports.
The confirmed record for this caliber belongs to the British sniper Craig Harrison, who in 2009 during the war in Afghanistan successfully hit two Taliban at a distance of 2,475 meters and damaged their machine gun.
“Harrison was shooting from a prone position, at a much higher elevation than his targets. According to the corporal, the calm weather and clear visibility also contributed to his accuracy. However, the British sniper had to make nine sightings before he hit the target,” explains the DIU.
Lector's record
“Before setting the record, Lecter was on the same level of terrain as the Russian and was aiming in the harsh December weather. The shot was fired while standing in a trench at a Russian occupier who was moving down the trench. He hit it on the first try.
“In modern warfare, you don't have the opportunity to get out of the trench, lie down on a hill, etc. Russian drones do not allow you to shoot from classic positions,” the fighter said.
Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, also noted Lector's achievements. According to the latter, the fighter's skillful work will go down in the history of Ukraine's fight for freedom.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the serviceman has already destroyed more than three dozen targets.
The DIU adds that the shot was made from a Sako M10 rifle.
“But if I had to choose one rifle and one cartridge, I would have taken a Sadex Kraken and .338LM caliber,” the soldier said.
In November 2023, Ukrainian soldier Viacheslav Kovalskyi set a world sniper record. At the same time, he eliminated a Russian officer at a distance of 3,800 meters.
