Ukrainian president's office: We expect Zelenskyy-Trump meeting soon
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet with US President-elect Donald Trump shortly. Immediately after the inauguration, official conversations and consultations will begin between the teams, according to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak.
“I do not believe in any scenario where Trump will take any steps to make America weak. And I do not believe that America can be strong if Ukraine is not strong and does not get a fair peace. I know for sure that Trump wants to end this war, it is important to him,” Yermak said.
The main thing is cooperation, he added. Ukraine is ready to start official talks and consultations immediately after the inauguration.
“And I expect that very soon there will be a meeting between President Trump, who will officially take office, and our President Zelenskyy to discuss specific plans on how to end this war,” the official said.
Yermak also expressed hope that the two presidents' teams would soon be able to meet in real-time.
“It is very important that the new administration is also deeply involved in the material and informed about real information on the battlefield very quickly, as it has already happened during the entire term of the previous administration. It is very important that this time of entry is as short as possible. We will do everything to make it so,” he added.
Yermak also says that he is in contact with several members of Trump's new team.
“I will not go into details because I have great respect for our partners and their legislation. But believe me, starting from January 20, these consultations, these contacts will be as effective as possible. And we will work to ensure that the meeting between the presidents takes place as soon as possible because it is very important,” Yermak said.
Zelenskyy-Trump meeting
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said that Kyiv and Washington were already working on a meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump, which would take place after his inauguration.
On the eve of the election, Trump claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine in one day as president of the United States.
He also decided to appoint a special representative for Ukraine and Russia. The position will be held by retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg. Kellogg is expected to visit Ukraine after Trump's inauguration.
Trump has also been talking about a peace plan for Ukraine, but it has not yet been officially presented. The media published several versions of a possible peace plan. Some versions included the postponement of NATO membership and territorial concessions.
