The visit of Donald Trump's appointed special envoy, Keith Kellogg, to Ukraine has been postponed for legal reasons. It will now take place after Trump's inauguration, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, told reporters.

"I would prefer that General Kellogg's team comment on the timing of the visit. What I can say is that the visit is still being prepared, and it will take place," Tykhyi said.

There are no political reasons for the postponement of the visit, he added. It is solely the legal reasons, as Kellogg will travel to Ukraine only after Trump's inauguration, scheduled for January 20.

"American legislation includes an important act called the Logan Act, which stipulates that all contacts must occur after the president assumes office. To our knowledge, this is the sole reason. We are preparing for this visit, we consider it very important, and we truly want to begin dialogue with Kellogg on the most pressing issues related to achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace as soon as possible after the inauguration," the spokesperson explained.

Kellogg's visit to Ukraine

After Donald Trump won the election he announced that he would appoint a special representative on Russia and Ukraine. He chose retired General Keith Kellogg for the position.

In December 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kellogg would visit Ukraine. The visit was initially planned to take place before Trump's inauguration. Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the visit of Trump's special envoy, stating that preparations were underway.

Western media reported that Kellogg postponed his trip to Ukraine and other European countries. The visit is now expected after January 20.
