Ukrainian President's Office makes statement on sanctions against Russian Gazprombank
The financial system of Russia will experience a big shock. These are all consequences of the recent sanctions against Gazprombank of Russia, states Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk.
Vlasiuk noted that not only Gazprombank's head office but also 7 or 8 branches in other countries that were used for cross-border payments were sanctioned.
“I think very quickly the financial system of Russia will experience a big shock and imbalance because a big piece has been knocked out,” Vlasiuk said.
He noted that Russians will not be able to quickly and completely transfer payments to other routes. Instead, they will have to cram everything into small banks.
“This will slow down everything, and make something impossible. But it will bring the perfect storm closer to the entire Russian financial system. That's why I think Ms. Elvira (Central Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina - ed.) hasn't been sleeping well for the last few days,” Vlasiuk said.
On Thursday, November 21, the United States expanded the sanctions list against the Russian Federation. This time, it included Gazprombank, BCS Bank, CentroCredit, and about 40 other institutions.
In particular, the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andrii Pyshnyi, said that the US sanctions package against Moscow cut off Russia's access to global finance.
Hungary, on the other hand, called the US sanctions against Gazprombank an “attack on sovereignty.”
Today it became known that after the US sanctions, Gazprombank cards are not accepted even in countries friendly to Russia.
