Ukrainian President's Office explained urgent necessity of Taurus and ATACMS missiles
The Armed Forces of Ukraine currently need long-range missiles like Taurus and ATACMS to accelerate counteroffensives, diminish Russia's combat capabilities, and preserve the lives of our defenders, according to a tweet by Mykhailo Podolyak, an Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
"Long-range missiles for Ukraine now mean a sharp reduction in Russia's combat capabilities. It involves actively destroying Russia's reserves and resources in distant approaches. It disrupts rear logistics - storage, transportation, fuel," Podolyak wrote.
He also stated that supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine will expedite the offensive operations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and minimize casualties among Ukrainian military personnel.
"And most importantly, it's de-escalation. This is the relevant... diplomacy. Ukraine needs Taurus (Germany) and ATACMS (USA)," emphasized the advisor to the head of the President's Office.
Taurus for Ukraine
Several months ago, a member of the Bundestag called for providing Ukraine with long-range missiles like Taurus to defend against Russian aggression.
Later, there were reports in the media that Kyiv officially requested the supply of such missiles from Berlin, but the German authorities hesitated to proceed with the transfer.
Recently, German journalists reported that support for providing Ukraine with Taurus missiles is growing in the German government and parliament.
According to the Spiegel publication, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz intends to make technical modifications to the missiles to prevent strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory, but this doesn't apply to the occupied territory of Crimea.
At the same time, criticism of Scholz continues in the Bundestag due to his reluctance to provide long-range missiles to Ukraine.
ATACMS for Ukraine
ATACMS is a solid-fueled, ground-to-ground ballistic missile manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin, with a range of up to 300 km. The missile launchers for ATACMS are the rocket artillery systems M270 MLRS and M142 HIMARS.
Recently, U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed that the United States has begun considering the transfer of these missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
