The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, emphasized support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Kyiv suggested to Bratislava to join the implementation of the Peace Formula, states the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, at a briefing.

"I proposed to Prime Minister Fico for Slovakia to consider participating in the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, particularly regarding the return of deported Ukrainian children and nuclear security," says the head of the Ukrainian government.

Shmyhal also comments on statements made by his Slovak counterpart recently.

"The Prime Minister of Slovakia emphasized that he fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. Of course, we recorded this in our joint statement, which was signed during the extensive meeting," he notes.

According to Shmyhal, during the meeting in Uzhhorod on January 24, the parties discussed a wide range of issues.

"We talked about the victory of Ukraine being the security not only of Ukraine but of the entire Europe, and thus the security of Slovakia. We discussed Russian atrocities, the bombing of civilian populations, the abduction of Ukrainian children, nuclear blackmail, and the nuclear threat that Russia poses to the world," he adds.

Fico's statements

It was previously reported that after yesterday's Russian shelling of Kyiv, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico cynically stated that life in the Ukrainian capital was supposedly "absolutely normal."

The Slovak official also referred to Russia's war against Ukraine as a "local conflict."

Earlier, Fico stated that Bratislava would not support providing military assistance to Ukraine to combat Russian aggression.

In November 2023, the Slovak Parliament approved the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico, supporting a political program that promised to cease providing military aid to Ukraine.

Meeting between Shmyhal and Fico on January 24

Today in Uzhhorod, a meeting took place between the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, and the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico. It was revealed that the Ukrainian government intended to formulate a policy of "new pragmatism" with the Slovak government, which would be beneficial to both countries.

Shmyhal also stated that Slovakia would not block the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine from the EU. This agreement, among others, was reached by the head of the Ukrainian Cabinet and his Slovak counterpart Fico following the meeting in Uzhhorod.
