Ukrainian PM aims to form 'new pragmatism' policy with Slovakia despite disagreements
The Ukrainian government intends to form a policy of "new pragmatism" with the Slovak government that will benefit both countries, according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"I am confident that today's meeting with Prime Minister Robert Fico will open a new page in our relations," he writes.
Meeting in Uzhhorod
On January 24, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico in Uzhhorod.
Slovakia's relations with Ukraine deteriorated after Fico's party won the 2023 parliamentary elections, and he immediately announced that he intended to cut off military aid to Kyiv.
In addition, Fico supported Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is blocking EU financial and military aid to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will meet with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto in Uzhhorod. It will take place in 5 days, on January 29. Its main task will be to discuss arrangements for a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
