Ukrainian official claims Azerbaijani passenger plane shot down by Russian air defense
Russia damaged an Azerbaijani passenger plane using a surface-to-air missile system, causing it to crash in Kazakhstan, stated the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andrii Kovalenko.
"This morning, the Embraer 190 aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, flying from Baku to Grozny, was shot down by a Russian air defense system," Kovalenko stated.
He added that Russia should have closed the airspace over Grozny during a suspected drone attack but didn't do so. As a result, the plane was damaged and sent to Kazakhstan instead of granting permission to land in Grozny and save lives.
