Ukrainian defenders from the Navy attacked soldiers of a Russian elite special forces unit who were stationed on the Syvash drilling platform, according to the Ukrainian Navy on Facebook.
The Navy did not specify which particular Russian elite special forces unit was targeted by the Ukrainian defenders.
The military emphasized that the strike allowed them to destroy the Russian forces’ reconnaissance and surveillance equipment, as well as the crew of an anti-tank missile system.
The Navy noted that the Russian troops are trying to portray their defeat as a victory. They are circulating a video online allegedly showing the destruction of a Ukrainian Navy boat by a Lancet drone. In reality, the footage shows Ukrainian soldiers successfully using a kamikaze drone.
Ukrainian Navy attacks Russian energy facilities
Last week, the Ukrainian Navy launched missile strikes on two key energy facilities in Russia — the Oryol thermal power plant and the Novobryanskaya substation.
Neptune missiles were used in the attack. According to the Ukrainian military, both targets supplied electricity to enterprises linked to the military industry, making their destruction a significant blow to Russian military logistics.
Reports about the strike on the Novobryanskaya substation, located near Bryansk, began circulating overnight on October 29.
Similar reports about the Oryol thermal power plant appeared on October 31: Oryol region governor Andrey Klychkov claimed the facility was damaged by falling drone debris.
The Oryol thermal power plant is one of the region’s main sources of electricity and heat, covering up to 40% of the Oryol region’s power needs and 65% of the city of Oryol’s heating supply.
The Novobryanskaya substation is among the largest energy hubs in the Central Federal District and is connected to three nuclear power plants — Kursk, Smolensk, and Novovoronezh.
