The decision on transferring Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine lies on the desk of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, stated Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.

"I think the decision (on transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine - ed.) lies on the desk of the Chancellor of Germany. He needs to make it," the minister said.

Previously, the media reported that Ukraine officially requested Taurus missiles from Germany, but Berlin had not yet committed to the transfer.

At the end of July, German journalists reported growing support in the government and parliament for providing Ukraine with Taurus missiles.

However, according to Spiegel, Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to make technical modifications to the missiles to prevent Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, except the occupied Crimea.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Oleksii Reznikov, is optimistic about the Taurus issue. He believes that the entire transfer process should take less than a year.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, believes it's not a lack of trust in Ukraine holding the German government back but rather a fear of upsetting Moscow.

On the other hand, the Chair of the Defense Committee in the Bundestag, Mari-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, believes that Scholz is the only one within the coalition blocking the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
