Ukrainian Energy Minister on Russia's energy strikes: Impact is much greater than in 2023
The latest Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure have caused much more consequences than the attacks in the winter of 2022-2023, according to Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
"Up to 80% of thermal generation was attacked. More than half of hydro generation and a large number of substations," stated Halushchenko.
He noted that the latest strikes were the "largest attack" on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
Halushchenko added that "the scale and impact of these attacks is much greater" than previous attacks in the winter of 2022-2023, when blackouts were introduced across the country, and there were problems with heating and water supply.
“We see that Russians modified the weapons,” Halushchenko said. He added that they use Iranian kamikaze drones and missiles that cause great damage per attack.
Shelling of Ukraine
The Russian army intensified the shelling of Ukraine a few weeks ago. It repeatedly carried out massive strikes.
The main target of the enemy was energy infrastructure facilities. In particular, one of the attacks left the whole Kharkiv without electricity.
Recently, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the enemy is trying to cause as much damage as possible to Ukraine's energy sector with such attacks.
