Ukrainian military hits another Russian ship in Crimea, says Navy
Ukrainian military launched strikes today on the Russian ship Kommuna in the occupied Sevastopol, according to a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk.
"Today the Ukrainian Navy hit another ship from the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, Kommuna. The extent of the damages is being verified. But it's clear the ship is now unable to perform its tasks. It will continue until the Russians run out of ships, or leave Crimea," Pletenchuk said.
What is known about Kommuna
The steamship Kommuna is the oldest ship in the Russian fleet. It was launched during World War I in 1913. In 1915, the ship became part of the Baltic Fleet.
As of today, it was part of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation and was based in the occupied Sevastopol. The Kommuna is designed for the search and rescue of submarines and serves as a carrier for submersibles. It is the only ship in the Black Sea capable of performing such tasks.
Explosions in Crimea
On the morning of April 21, explosions were heard in the occupied Sevastopol. After that, a video appeared showing a man pointing out smoke rising from the bay and talking about a missile hitting a ship.
Occupiers confirmed a missile attack on one of the ships but claimed that the missile was intercepted. Meanwhile, the Crimean Wind Telegram channel said that the ship Kommuna might have been damaged.
