The spokesperson of Operational Command South, Vladyslav Voloshyn, has denied rumors about an alleged order to open fire only in response. Currently, Ukrainian troops are acting according to the operational situation.

Voloshyn stated that no order has been given to fire only in response to Russian attacks.

"All units are operating according to the way the operational situation has developed, based on the circumstances. It’s nonsense to shoot only in response," noted the spokesperson.

It should be noted that recently, rumors circulated in the media suggesting that there was an order to fire only in response to Russian attacks. There was even information that some units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine had been ordered to cease fire on May 8.

According to anonymous military sources cited by the media, troops could only fire in response to violations of the ceasefire and only after warning shots.

These changes were supposedly linked to the ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Ceasefire in Ukraine

This year, Russia has repeatedly rejected a 30-day ceasefire proposed by international partners.

Instead, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared his own ceasefire with Ukraine.

One of the most recent examples was the so-called Easter ceasefire, which Russian forces violated within hours. More recently, Putin announced another ceasefire, scheduled to last from May 8 to May 11.

However, despite the Kremlin's claims, fighting on the front lines has continued, and the number of attacks has only increased.

Earlier today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

He stressed that it is set to begin on Monday, May 12, and that Ukraine, along with its partners, is awaiting Russia's response.

The president also warned that new sanctions would be imposed if the Kremlin rejects a complete and unconditional ceasefire.
