Ukrainian military comments on Russian winter tactics at front
In winter, fighting with the use of equipment will be very difficult due to the weather. Therefore, the Russian occupiers are likely to use the so-called worm tactics, says Volodymyr Nazarenko, head of artillery intelligence of the 4th Rubizh Brigade, captain of the National Guard of Ukraine.
“The cold snap, winter, especially in Donbas, we understand that this is the season of fog, poor visibility, cold weather because during the day it is barely above freezing, everything melts, it is swamps, washed out roads after military vehicles. Logistics and living conditions are very complicated,” the soldier describes the situation.
According to the National Guard of Ukraine captain, Russia has always relied on small groups, for superiority in manpower.
“But scooters, motorcycles, and scooters cannot be used in the conditions of washed-out roads, so Russia will try to accumulate, move on foot, using the so-called worm tactics," he notes.
In his opinion, Russians will be struck with FPV drones, mortars, grenade launchers, and artillery, which works more along the zero line.
“Russia will continue to suffer losses. Moreover, the war in winter means, first of all, extremely hard living conditions,” states Nazarenko.
Situation at the front in Ukraine
As of October 24, the Kurakhove and Pokrovsk directions remain the most active areas of the frontline. The Russians have concentrated near Selydove, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces have stopped Russia's attacks.
According to the Institute of War Studies, both Ukrainian and Russian troops are advancing in the Kursk region. Russian invaders are also reported to be advancing near Kupiansk, Pokrovsk, and Vuhledar.
Recently it was reported that Russian troops are not preparing for winter at the front. Instead, the Russian occupiers are trying to achieve their goals before the frost.
