After advancing in the singles draw, Marta Kostyuk returned to the grass courts of Wimbledon later the same day and reached the round of 16 in the women's doubles tournament. Kostyuk and Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse defeated an Indonesian pair to advance.

Thrilling tiebreak seals victory for Kostyuk and Ruse

The match against Indonesian Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen lasted 1 hour and 49 minutes. Although the final score was a straight-sets win 2:0 for the Ukrainian-Romanian duo, it was a tightly contested battle.

The Indonesians made the stronger start, quickly taking a 2:0 lead in the opening set. Kostyuk and Ruse responded immediately, winning five consecutive games to seize control before closing out the set 6:4.

The second set appeared to be heading comfortably in favor of the Ukrainian and Romanian, after they built a 3:0 lead. However, their opponents fought back, winning four straight games to turn the momentum.

The match was ultimately decided in a dramatic tiebreak. Sutjiadi and Tjen saved two match points, but Kostyuk and Ruse held their nerve in the closing stages to prevail 10:8 in the tiebreak.

National milestone: What's next

The victory makes Marta Kostyuk the first Ukrainian player to reach the third round (round of 16) of the women's doubles competition at Wimbledon 2026.

Earlier in the tournament, Lyudmyla Kichenok was eliminated, but Yuliia Starodubtseva and the pairing of Anhelina Kalinina and Dayana Yastremska still have a chance to join Kostyuk in the round of 16.

Kostyuk and Ruse had already produced one of the tournament's biggest upsets by eliminating fifth seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the United States and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand in the opening round.

Their next opponents will be either the ninth seeds, Ellen Perez of Australia and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands, or the duo of Camila Osorio of Colombia and Solana Sierra of Argentina.

Earlier today, the media also reported on Kostyuk's impressive victory over American star Emma Navarro, which secured her first-ever place in the Wimbledon singles round of 16.
