Ukrainian Kokhan reaches hammer throw final at Olympics
Ukrainian athlete Mykhaylo Kokhan has successfully advanced from the hammer throw qualification round to the final.
The qualification round was held in two groups of 16 athletes each. Ukrainian athlete Mykhaylo Kokhan was in the same group as Wojciech Nowicki, the winner of the previous Olympic hammer throw event.
To advance to the final round, athletes needed to throw the hammer more than 77 meters or be among the top 12 overall from both groups.
On the second attempt, Kohan threw the hammer to a distance of 77.42 meters, achieving the second-best result in his group. The top spot was secured by Canadian athlete Rowan Hamilton with a throw of 77.78 meters.
The final round of the competition will take place on Sunday, August 4, starting at 09:30 p.m. Kyiv time.
Background
Ukraine has so far won only two medals at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris.
Specifically, Ukrainian fencer Olha Kharlan won a bronze medal after defeating South Korea's Choi Sebin in the consolation match.
Additionally, on August 1, Ukrainian shooter Serhiy Kulish won a silver medal in the three-position small-bore rifle event.
