Cyber specialists of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine attacked Russian ISP servers, leaving thousands of Russians without Internet access, according to RBC‑Ukraine sources.

From April 30 to May 2, Russian media outlets and local public channels received numerous user complaints about being unable to access their Internet providers’ services.

As a result of the DDoS attack, the servers of four company branches in Siberia, located in Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo, and Krasnoyarsk, were overloaded and taken offline.

"Representatives of the Internet providers have confirmed the powerful DDoS attack, noted disruptions in the Personal Account portal and the My Sibseti mobile app, and urged users to stop filing complaints, as this further overloads the telephone support lines," the sources said.

The telecom operator Sibirskie Seti was founded in 2004 and provides broadband Internet, IP telephony, and digital television services. The operator serves 39 cities across Siberia.

Hacker attacks against Russia

Since the start of the full‑scale war, hacker attacks on the Russian government and private entities have become more frequent. Various sectors have been hit, from Internet service providers and banks to government bodies and defense enterprises. These attacks often aim to disrupt systems, exfiltrate data, or exert psychological pressure on the population.

A significant number of these operations are attributed to the hacker units of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. In February, Ukrainian intelligence hackers targeted the infrastructure of Gazstroyprom, the main contractor for Russia’s Gazprom.
