Ukrainian high-ranking officials arrive in U.S. before congressional vote on Ukraine
The Head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, Ukraine's Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, and the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, are currently on a visit to the United States of America, according to the President's Office press service.
Andriy Yermak has already addressed the U.S. Institute of Peace.
"Ukraine has been fighting for its freedom for 649 days. We have broken the plans of the Russian blitzkrieg. We have stood firm. Ukrainians are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped us remain a sovereign and independent nation," he stated.
According to the Head of the Presidential Office, Russia is currently trying to stir up conflicts in different countries, and it is necessary to prevent this.
Yermak reminded of Ukraine's Peace Formula, which offers a comprehensive response to security challenges.
"It restores justice to the world. It's a Ukrainian formula, but the peace plan built on it has co-authors from around the world. We are turning goodwill into good action," he added.
As Yermak noted, responsible states that respect international law must remain united and committed to the cause of peacekeeping. Moreover, preventing war can only be achieved by providing Ukraine with reliable multilateral security guarantees.
Vote on aid to Ukraine
Tomorrow, December 6, the Senate (the upper house of the U.S. Congress) is set to consider a bill proposing over $60 billion in funding for aid to Ukraine.
This aid is part of President Joe Biden's request to Congress for over $100 billion. It also includes funding for aid to Israel.
Just yesterday, on December 4, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that the U.S. wouldn't be able to provide weapons to Ukraine if Congress didn't support new funding.
