Ukrainian Foreign Minister to Blinken: Urgent defense decisions can’t wait
Ukraine needs better protection now, not later. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said before his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Brussels that Ukraine hopes to speed up important decisions by the United States.
Sybiha noted that today's talks offer a chance to coordinate steps following the US presidential election.
"Ukraine has always valued strong bipartisan support. We've maintained contacts with both sides, working with the newly elected president and his team, as well as the outgoing administration," said the minister.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine cannot pause or wait when it comes to defense. Russia is bombarding Ukrainian critical infrastructure, energy facilities, ports, hospitals, and schools every day.
"Our people need better protection now, not later. We need to speed up all crucial decisions. Today’s discussions will focus precisely on these issues," he added.
According to the foreign minister, the parties will discuss Ukraine's defense capabilities, strengthening its air shield ahead of winter, Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and efforts to achieve peace.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Brussels to discuss several issues, including support for Ukraine. He has already met NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the alliance's headquarters.
Blinken promised to bolster support for Ukraine ahead of Donald Trump's return to the White House. He also emphasized that North Korea’s deployment of troops to support Russia in its war against Ukraine "will demand and receive a strong response."
