Ukraine is actively working to improve the situation in the energy system. Efforts are focused on five areas, according to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

“Russian missile and drone strikes have destroyed or damaged a significant part of generating capacities, thermal generation, hydroelectric power plants, and electricity transmission system facilities,” the Minister says.

According to Kuleba, Ukraine's efforts to maintain the energy system are currently focused on five areas:

  • strengthening air defense
  • rapid repair and restoration of generation and distribution facilities
  • decentralization of the power system, including the installation of cogeneration units
  • increasing import capacities from the EU from the current 1.7 to 2.2 gigawatts
  • attracting funds and equipment from partners.

The Minister calls on Kyiv's European partners to step up their efforts in the above areas.

Russian air terror of Ukraine

Kuleba noted that Russia's greatest advantage is still its air terror. Every month, the enemy drops 3,200 to 3,500 guided bombs.

“Ukraine needs the capability to destroy the carriers of guided bombs, including Russian warplanes at airfields and in the sky. Long-range air strikes and modern air defense are the basis for ending the daily Russian terror,” he emphasizes.

The Minister emphasizes the importance of allowing the Defense Forces to strike at Russian military targets on enemy territory, in particular at places where enemy troops and equipment are concentrated.

Electricity situation in Ukraine

Since the beginning of this year, Russia has repeatedly carried out massive shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities. As a result of these attacks, Ukraine has lost 9 GW of power generation capacity.
