Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. The meeting took place on September 18 in Bratislava, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Today in Bratislava, I had the honor of being received by Prime Minister Robert Fico, continuing their close dialogue with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal," said the Foreign Minister.

According to Sybiha, he and Fico discussed ways to develop relations between Ukraine and Slovakia in the spirit of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.

Slovakia's position on Ukraine

Last year, Robert Fico and the Direction – Social Democracy party came to power in Slovakia. At the time, Fico stated that he would cease military support for Ukraine and block its NATO membership, voicing pro-Russian sentiments and referring to the war as a "frozen conflict."

On September 9, 2024, during a visit to the Holocaust Museum in the city of Sereď, Fico claimed that "Nazi forces" were fighting in Ukraine, although the international community allegedly fails to recognize this.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's statement about Ukrainian soldiers contradicts the "level of trust and cooperation" between the two countries.
