Ukrainian forces strike Ryazan refinery, control point in Kursk region again
Ukrainian defenders have struck the oil refinery in the Ryazan region for the second time this week. They also launched an attack on a forward command post of the Russian forces in the Kursk region, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On the night of January 26, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' drone systems and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense struck the facilities of the Ryazan Oil Refining Company, which supports the Russian occupying army.
This was a repeat attack on the refinery. Following the strike, explosions and a fire were reported in the target area.
The General Staff reported that the Ryazan Oil Refining Plant is one of the four largest refineries in Russia. The plant produces diesel fuel and TS-1 jet fuel, among other products.
Additionally, Ukrainian missile forces recently targeted a forward command post (the operational group of the Pacific Fleet) in the Korenevo area of the Kursk region, Russia. The results and extent of the damage are still being clarified.
Details of the drone attack on the refinery
According to sources cited by RBC-Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the alleged downing of eight drones in the Ryazan region. However, eyewitnesses recorded around 10 explosions on video, after which intense fires broke out at various locations within the refinery.
Sources stated that local law enforcement quickly cordoned off the refinery area to prevent access by witnesses who could confirm the accuracy of the drone strikes, as was the case during the previous attack on the night of January 24. Back then, videos and photos shared on social media, accompanied by comments from local residents, confirmed the hits and detonations of large fuel containers.
It is noted that the Ryazan Oil Refining Plant is owned by Rosneft, with a declared processing capacity of up to 17 million tons of oil products per year, making it one of the largest refineries in Russia. A portion of the produced oil products is supplied to the Russian Armed Forces, while the rest is exported.
The refinery is located more than 450 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Strike on the Ryazan Oil Refinery
It is worth noting that on the night of January 24, drones operated by the SSU and Special Operations Forces attacked the Ryazan Oil Refining Company facilities. The attack caused at least three storage tanks to catch fire.
The fire, which resulted from the UAV strikes, spread to the workshop housing the hydrodesulfurization unit for diesel fuel and aviation kerosene.
Furthermore, on the night of January 24, Ukrainian forces also attacked the Ryazan oil pumping station and the Ryazan thermal power plant.
