Ukrainian forces repel Russian overnight drone attack and warn of new threat

On the night of April 22, the Russian army launched 54 Shahed drones across Ukrainian territory. Two regions were affected by the enemy air attack, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine report.
In the overnight hours of April 22, 2025 - starting at 9:00 p.m. Kyiv time on April 21 - the enemy carried out an attack using 54 attack drones launched from the following areas:
- Millerovo
- Kursk
- Bryansk
- Primorsko-Akhtarsk
- and from occupied Crimea, Cape Chauda.
Ukraine's Defense Forces aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups repelled the enemy's aerial assault.
As of 9:00 a.m. on April 22, it was confirmed that 38 Shahed attack drones and other types of UAVs were shot down over the eastern, northern, southern, and central parts of the country. Another 16 enemy drones - decoys - were lost locally without any negative consequences.
Due to the enemy's attack, the Odesa and Kyiv regions were affected. In addition, the Air Force warns that starting at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, a new wave of Russian drone attacks began.
"Strike UAV groups are entering from the north through the Sumy region. Respond to the air raid alert," the statement says.
Shelling of Ukraine
In the early hours of Tuesday, April 22, Russian forces launched kamikaze drones at Ukraine in yet another aerial attack. As a result, air raid alerts were announced in Kyiv and several other regions. In the Kyiv region, houses, cars, and outbuildings were damaged.
During the attack, Odesa was also struck - initially, explosions were heard there. Later, the Odesa Regional Military Administration and city authorities clarified that drone strikes damaged civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, an educational institution, and vehicles.
According to preliminary information, three people were injured as a result of Russia's massive strike on Odesa.
