Ukrainian Forces push Russian army back from Kupiansk and control approaches to city
Ukrainian forces have managed to push Russian troops back from Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. The defense forces control the situation on the approaches to the city, said the spokesperson for the operational-strategic grouping of troops Khortytsia, Nazar Voloshyn.
According to him, the Russian forces are attempting to advance in small assault groups without involving a large amount of armored equipment, and then they try to consolidate and accumulate forces. However, the Ukrainian military has managed to push the Russian troops away from the city.
"On that front, the situation has been stabilized, and the enemy has been pushed back from the city (Kupiansk - ed.). Everything is under the control of our Defense Forces. Even if some groups manage to cross over in numbers of 8 or 10 people, only about 2-3 make it to the shore. So the enemy is being destroyed there as well," Voloshyn said.
The military also emphasized that the equipment the Russian army attempts to move across the river is immediately destroyed by various firepower means, including drones.
Meanwhile, the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, Oleh Syniehubov, stated that the Russian troops are crossing to the right bank of the Oskil River in the Kupiansk district by boats, but Ukrainian defenders are destroying these groups.
"These are constantly reconnaissance and sabotage groups testing the defensive positions of our soldiers, using various tactics. They cross the Oskil by boat, and they go through minefields. Our warriors detect all these activities and try to destroy the enemy as much as possible on the approaches to Kupiansk and other areas. Active battles have been ongoing in that direction for the second day," he noted.
Battles for Kupiansk
Recently, Ukrainian forces repelled a large-scale enemy attack on Kupiansk. During the assault, some Russian soldiers dressed in Ukrainian military uniforms to divert attention and launched the attack in four waves.
Later, the DeepState service reported that after the assault, some Russian soldiers scattered through the houses in Kupiansk. According to local authorities, they were eliminated and failed to gain a foothold in the city.
In the past few days, the Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Anatolii Barhylevych, stated that Ukrainian troops repelled all attacks on Kupiansk. Currently, there is no threat to the city.
Experts note that it is unlikely that Russian troops will be able to capture Kupiansk before winter. If the Ukrainian Armed Forces have enough weapons and personnel, the Russian army will not be able to take the city at all.
