Ukrainian forces holding strong against Putin's pre-election escalating pressure on front: Zelenskyy states
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has significantly increased pressure on the front ahead of the presidential elections to appease discontent among Russians. However, Ukrainian defenders are withstanding the strikes, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's speech during the negotiations of the G7 leaders.
"Putin plans to simulate his re-election for a new presidential term, and to quell growing Russian dissatisfaction with the war's outcomes. He has significantly increased pressure on the front. But, our warriors withstand the attacks - Putin hasn't won any - any operation this year," emphasizes the head of the Ukrainian state.
According to Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian military retains crucial footholds on several fronts and prepares for further steps. The long-range weaponry significantly aids the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this endeavor.
The president highlights that Ukraine has a realistic action strategy, and efforts backed by allies could ensure success on the ground.
Russian presidential elections
The Russian presidential elections are scheduled for March 2024.
However, their conduct is a formality as the results are pre-determined - Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will remain in power. This was openly stated by the Russian president's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, who mentioned that the dictator would be re-elected for another term with over 90% of the vote.
Thus, Putin will remain in power at least until 2030.
Recently, it became known that Putin has approved amendments to the presidential election law, complicating the monitoring of falsifications.
