Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) drones struck hangars housing Russian fighter jets at the Saky military airbase in occupied Crimea during the night of July 1, according to the SBU.

"Fulfilling the tasks set by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as part of the 40-day campaign to exert pressure on Russia, the SBU carried out a successful strike on the Saky military airbase in temporarily occupied Crimea," the agency said in a statement.

The operation targeted the airbase's infrastructure, including hangars used to store fighter aircraft.

According to the SBU, five drone strikes on aircraft hangars have been confirmed.

Preliminary information indicates that Su-30 and Su-30SM fighter jets were inside two of the hangars at the time of the attack.

Following the strike, a fire broke out in the hangar housing a Su-30SM, indicating that the target was successfully hit.

The SBU noted that each aircraft is estimated to be worth between $30 million and $50 million, depending on its configuration.

Ukraine's 40-day campaign against Russia

On June 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the SBU had launched a 40-day campaign aimed at increasing pressure on Russia to force an end to the war.

According to the SBU, all of its strikes carried out since then have been part of that broader operation.

The strike on the Slavyansk oil refinery on June 28 was also part of the campaign.
