The 128th Separate Mountain Assault Transcarpathian Brigade reported that Russian forces launched a massive assault in the Zaporizhzhia direction, deploying over 300 assault troops and dozens of armored vehicles. Ukrainian troops responded with a devastating strike.

According to the brigade, in the evening of April 16, columns of Russian infantry and armored vehicles advanced toward Ukrainian positions. The assault targeted the sector held by the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Transcarpathian Brigade.

In total, more than 300 assault troops and around 40 pieces of armored equipment were involved in the attack. The Russians used:

  • Infantry fighting vehicles;
  • Armored personnel carriers;
  • Tanks;
  • Quad bikes.

"Repelling this large-scale attack was a demonstration of effective coordination between various combat units," the soldiers emphasized.

The brigade said Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance spotted the enemy columns in time. This allowed drone operators to start destroying Russian equipment while it was still 8 kilometers away from Ukrainian positions.

At the same time, Ukrainian artillery joined in and delivered a powerful strike. Only a small number of Russian troops managed to break through the fire barrier and reach within range of small arms.

"Our infantry hunted down the stragglers with mortars, machine guns, and rifles. The battle lasted over two hours and continued into the night," the brigade reported.

As a result, 29 units of Russian armored equipment were destroyed. About 140 assault troops were eliminated.

"We didn’t lose a single position. That night, we gave the Russians such a beating, they won’t forget it. At least, those who survived," the soldiers added.

The enemy's losses

As a reminder, between April 19 and 20, Russia’s military lost more than 900 troops in a single day. Ukrainian forces also destroyed:

  • 49 artillery systems;
  • 64 drones;
  • 112 vehicles.

Earlier today, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russian forces remain active in the Pokrovsk direction.
