Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled a Russian attack near Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian forces blocked access to the city and surrounded the Russian troops, according to the Khartiia Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Operation details

Ukrainian Defense Forces blocked the Russians in Kupiansk and cleared the entire northwestern outskirts of the city.

Ukrainian defenders eliminated 1,027 Russian troops, liberated the villages of Kindrashivka and Radkivka and their surroundings, and broke through to the Oskil River north of Kupiansk, completely blocking the Russian ground routes into the city.

The Russian group in Kupiansk, which now numbers over 200 servicemen, is surrounded.

Russia carries out daily attacks with platoon-sized forces, attempting to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops north of Kupiansk.

Ukrainian Defense Forces repel all these attacks with significant losses for the Russians. Ground access for Russians to Kupiansk is completely blocked.

All exits from the gas pipeline, through which Russians used to enter the city, are also under fire control. Russia is supplied exclusively by aerial drones.

"Fighting in the city center is still ongoing, but eventually Ukrainian Kupiansk will be completely liberated!" says Colonel Ihor Obolenskyi, call sign Kornet, commander of the 2nd Khartiia Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The operation was planned and commanded by the 2nd Khartiia Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine in cooperation with the tactical group Kupiansk and under the direct control of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, and the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko.

Who participated in operation to liberate the Kupiansk outskirts

The 2nd Corps reported that several months ago, the Russians broke through to Kupiansk to a depth of 6 km from the Oskil River, as a result of which the situation in the city and surrounding villages became critical.

According to the corps, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi created the Khartiia search and strike group in September, consisting of units of the 13th Operational Brigade Khartiia, the 475th Assault Regiment Code 9.2, units of the 92nd Assault Brigade, units of the Foreign Legion of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, and the 144th Mechanized Brigade, 127th OVMBR, and other units.

The Kupiansk tactical group has been operating in the city itself and continues to do so, fighting the Russians in the settlement.

Situation in Kupiansk

Recently, Viktor Trehubov, head of communications for the Joint Forces, reported that Russian troops are regularly attempting to break through the border in the Velykyi Burluk direction and have established a small zone of control between the cities of Vovchansk and Kupiansk.

Later, the military official stated that the defense of Kupiansk is stable. Russian troops rushed their offensive, overestimated their capabilities, and are suffering losses in urban areas.

Meanwhile, Russian propaganda continues to spread fake news about complete control over Kupiansk.

Russian propagandists recently invented a story about the alleged destruction of several Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups near the city. Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Center for Countering Dissinformation emphasizes that these statements have no connection to reality.
