Two oil pumping stations that supply fuel to Moscow are on fire following an attack carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The targets were located about 700 kilometers away.

The strikes targeted the Vtorovo and Lobkovo stations in Russia's Vladimir region.

The stations' primary purpose is to pump diesel fuel into the Moscow Ring oil products pipeline and transport it for export to Baltic Sea ports, including the oil-loading port of Primorsk.

Local authorities confirmed fires at two infrastructure facilities following drone strikes.

According to NASA's FIRMS service, thermal anomalies indicating fires were detected in the areas where both oil pumping stations are located.

Why it matters

The SBU emphasized that oil pumping stations are critical elements of Russia's fuel logistics network.

They are used for:

  • Supplying fuel to industrial centers;
  • Supporting military infrastructure;
  • Transporting petroleum products for export.

The security service noted that disrupting the operation of such facilities complicates the logistics of Russia's fuel system and affects the export capabilities.

On May 24, reports already emerged about a strike on the Vtorovo line production and dispatch station in Russia's Vladimir region, which supplies fuel to major oil depots around Moscow.
