Ukrainian defense forces show Volchansk, Ukrainian city left in ruins by Russian assaults

The city of Volchansk in Kharkiv region, which has been defended by Ukrainian forces for over a year, now looks like complete ruins, reports the press service of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Kost Hordiienko.
Russian troops regularly attempt to storm the city, but all their attacks remain unsuccessful. Ukrainian infantry destroys the enemy on the ground and in the basements, while Ukrainian drones constantly monitor the enemy from the sky.
Despite daily attacks and attempts to capture it, Volchansk remains unbroken.
Volchansk
Volchansk is a city in Kharkiv region, Chuhuiv district, and the administrative center of the Volchansk urban community. It was formerly the district center of the district with the same name.
During the Russian-Ukrainian war, the city found itself in the zone of active hostilities. In 2022, it was under occupation for a short time but was liberated during the Slobozhanske counteroffensive. In 2024, the Russian army launched a new offensive, as a result of which Volchansk was practically destroyed.
Due to repeated shelling and occupations, the city's population sharply declined. Before the full-scale invasion, about 17,000 people lived there. After the liberation in the autumn of 2022, around 3,500 remained. By spring 2024, this number was still holding, but with the new assault beginning in May, a mass evacuation of civilians started.
In June–July 2024, about 50 residents remained in Volchansk, in August–September only 20. By the end of the year, the city was likely completely depopulated.
Earlier, the Operational Tactical Group Kharkiv reported that Russian forces were active in the area of Volchansk and nearby settlements, where enemy assault actions were taking place daily.
